Impact on Alarms not functioning?
BT will be switching off the PSTN phone network and its ISDN services in 2025 to move to an IP based network. In theory, that gives you a good few years to get you telephony sorted. … BT will be moving to an IP (internet protocol) based network that’s digital by nature, and designed to work over fibre.
As part of the move to a full fibre broadband infrastructure, the technology used within the UK broadband and telephony network is changing, as it is in most countries around the world.
In 2018, the UK Government recognised – as part of The Future Telecoms Infrastructure Review – that after decades in use for both voice and data services the UK Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), was coming to the end of its life and would need to be replaced with newer technologies.
Over the past 12 months, Openreach (BT) have been making plans that will result in the UK’s Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) being switched off by 2025 as they proceed with the implementation of their ‘All IP’ network. In the UK, the upgrade to ‘All IP’ means that the existing, predominantly copper based PSTN telephony network, will be entirely replaced by a faster ‘All IP’ fibre network and infrastructure.
At the moment, there is no definitive time scale as to what areas will be switched off sooner or later.
This change to ‘All IP’ is likely to have an impact on your remotely monitored intruder alarm system, both in terms of compatibility and/or disruption to the monitoring of your intruder alarm when the migration to ‘All IP’ takes place.
how this may impact on you
Intruder alarm systems, like the one you may have installed, that use the copper infrastructure to send alarm messages to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), will not be compatible with the new ‘All IP’ telephony network.
You will need to upgrade your signalling unit to ensure continued monitoring of your alarm. We are suggesting upgrading to wireless (radio) signalling. This can be either single path or dual path and can be tailored to meet your individual requirements and the requirements of your insurance company. Wireless signalling will ensure that you are fully connected at all times, even in the event of a power cut, which other types of signalling such as LAN connections, will not offer.
If you are already one of our customers, we can attend to the changeover the at same time as we attend for one of our pre-planned service visits. If not, we will offer a special fee for you depending on your location and what system you have installed. Any costs involved can be offset by the fact that there are no additional call charges with these systems. In addition, if you currently pay for a dedicated telephone line for your alarm system, this can be cancelled, which means that you will save the cost of line rental. All this can be explained by our surveyor if you choose to have us visit your property.
It will also give you the opportunity to review your security arrangements and perhaps update to one of our latest Active Deterrence CCTV Cameras that are designed to stop breaches before they happen. Or our ‘Lock & Load’ Light Camera that work on professionally set up IR detection.
You will need to confirm with your insurance company that these changes are being made and they are happy for you to change to the type of signalling that we are suggesting. You may prefer to wait until we have visited to explain it in more detail. In which case, all you have to do is phone our friendly office to make arrangements for the site visit as soon as possible.
Feel free to contact our friendly office for more information. You will be made to feel comfortable discussing your needs and they will happily arrange a free (Covid Aware) site visit to discuss your security arrangements and your situation in particular.
As part of our March Madness campaign we thought we would do some research into burglar and intruder activity this time of year and came up with some interesting findings.
By coincidence an article appeared in a National Newspaper today suggesting the same thing. The consensus is there will be an increase of burglaries in 2021 to make up for the lost business during lockdown. They project a surge of burglaries to make up for the 20% drop last year compared to 2019.
Apparently criminals takings were down by £103million in 2020, due to less opportunity as lockdown meant people spent more time their property. They also mention a number of precautions you should take, the one that stood out of course was to make sure you have an effective and efficient intruder alarm and CCTV system.
are you being cased?
This of paramount importance but there are a couple of other considerations. For example, how do you know if your home is being targeted? It’s a depressing thought, but it’s something you should remain conscious about. Professional Burglars are smarter than you think.
They do their research, just like any other professional. Casing the joint describes how they view a property and look for weaknesses, blindspots and more importantly find out whether the property has any security arrangements and when the house is likely to be unoccupied. Casual house breakers or ‘chancers’ will probably spend less time staking out their target and just concentrate on the deterrents; whether you have an alarms or a dog and where the easiest place would be to slide open a window or force a door.
We are not going to quote statistics because they can be misconstrued and are always readily available on the internet. What we are going to centre on is what steps you should take to make sure you and your family and possessions are safe.
someone at the door
Believe it or not, the most common place an intruder breaks into a property is through the front door. This is because someone arriving at your front door is considered more socially acceptable than creeping around the back or side of the house. And don’t think a door bell alarm is going safeguard this approach. Whilst they are being well marketed and some are more effective than others, there are some that can be easily bypassed or disabled with a WiFi jammer and if your wifi goes down you do not have protection. (See our previous Post)
About 75% of burglaries will occur when the property is empty but that leaves around 25% of burglaries happen when the house is actually occupied. Much of this depends on what security arrangements are in place; if you have a dog or anything else that is going to alert an intruder. The intruder will depend on their homework before they decide their strategy.
Surprisingly most incidents happen between 10am and 3pm and literally take between 10/15 minutes for the perpetrator to be in and out. Unless they have their eyes on something you own in particular they are usually in and out, causing as much havoc as necessary and taking the most valuable and disposable items on show. Thats why draws are turned out, usually starting from the bottom, and they are used to finding envelopes of cash taped to the bottom so don’t think thats safe.
Longer days and lighter nights
Reported incidents are inclined to increase during the spring/summer months and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon, especially when we take into consideration the social impact the pandemic has had. Some people have found it very difficult to make ends meet and have been particularly affected; excellent breeding ground for those looking to find an alternative solution. Perpetrators prefer to do their work when there is a natural cover of bushes and trees.
The best advice we can give is to remain cognisant and aware as much as you can. Take notice of your surroundings and if you see someone in a car or on foot that seems to be taking a interest in the area or specific properties just spend a little more time in looking at their actions, don’t be alarmed if they see you, after all you are doing nothing wrong and if they hurry away it should arouse your suspicion even more. Take or remember the registration/colour/make of their vehicle.
This is sometimes easier said than done when you are trying to unload your shopping or attend to the kids car seats but this is the time you should be even more aware of your surroundings.
Pay particular attention to vehicles with tinted windows and if you think they have been there for an unusual amount of time do not be scared of telephoning the police who may just be able to drive by and make their presence known.
The other safe way of securing this information is to have high quality security cameras that are programmed to pick out and record any unusual presence.
Another favourite is for them to go door to door soliciting work or pretending they are from a local government department or utility company. When they come to your door ask to see their credentials and read them. If you have a smart phone photograph the ID. They won’t have an objection if they are genuine. Make sure they see they are on camera and that you have a security system fitted.
If you allow them access into your home be very sure you are not allowing them to take a better look at your possessions and your security systems. The days of having a chat over a nice cup of tea needs careful consideration before an act of human kindness.
Notwithstanding that, we attend site visits that are confirmed through our office and gives us the opportunity to discuss things with you, as well as review any security system you have, or think you need. We will survey your property and listen to your own ideas and tell you what we can offer as a NSI/NACOSS Gold Company with over 40 years experience. Our range of the most modern, latest security recording systems designed for your particular need will be hard to be beaten by anyone and with our annual service agreement will be accepted by all insurance companies.
Lock and Load Light Camera might be an interesting thought when dealing with a possible intruder, but it’s the best way to describe how our new Light Camera works to capture instant perfect video images.

Here it is in action.......
Danger at the Door - DOORBELL ALARM SYSTEMS?
The results of an aggressive advertising campaign on both TV and Radio has made doorbell alarms systems a popular choice for a cheap security option. But they are not without their limitations, or problems. For your information and for example, they can be hacked and the wifi signal on which they rely blocked by the same technology thieves are using to steal prestige cars from driveways.
In the same manner, if the wifi fails for any reason the system is basically off and your property is unprotected until rebooted and will remain so until you return home. There are also additional costs, like having to open a Cloud account by way of a subscription to have your feed recorded.
The novelty value of being to answer the door from anywhere in the house, in the bath, in the garden or away from the property, should be sensibly compared to the reliability and efficiency of such systems. Why would you have an alarm system fitted that lets you know there has been an infringement but doesn’t trigger an audible alarm?
The internet is charged full of stories about the systems being hacked and the tables reversed with hackers actually using the cameras to watch you and your family inside your property. One story reported recently in a national newspaper described an 8 year old girl being scared stiff-less from a strange voice telling her she is being watched in her bedroom and she can do anything she wanted to do without getting into trouble. Her screams alerted her parents who then took weeks consoling her trying to provide a plausible reason and convincing her that this voice wasn’t a sinister monster coming to get her and would not happen again?
There have even been some reports that personal information has been sent back to manufacturers in China via the internet which allows them to build up a portfolio of your activities.
Some doorbell alarms can also be easily stolen which kind of defeats the object. Apparently a similar key to that used to change the SIM card in an iPhone is all you need to detach a doorbell phone and potential intruders are fully aware of which models these are.
According to a local Welsh newspaper a man received an email to warn him his smart doorbell had been hacked and his account had been logged into. Just hours later he received a telephone call to say he and his family were being watched inside their house.
Recently, in local WhatsApp group one young couple reported a robbery had taken place without their doorbell activating either of their smart phones. Presumably such a wifi blocking system had been used as intruders somehow quietly managed to force open the front door and had the run of the house while the residents slept upstairs in their bedroom. The usual Laptops and other valuables were taken and they woke up to an amazing surprise from which they now feel vulnerable in there own house.
Like all alarm systems doorbell alarms depend on their ability to operate correctly, correct installation and a failsafe backup system. Doorbell alarm systems are recognised as a deterrent but will be questioned by insurance companies when an incident is reported.
They are not generally NSI approved, in the same way the installer may not be either. This may present problems should the occasions arise for any insurance claim you make, and it will certainly not help towards any discounted premium, especially after a claim.
YOUR SECURITY OUR PRIORITY
It all depends on how seriously you take your security.
To us your security is our priority and we have cameras that will work under any conditions, tell the difference between a human and a pet by Artificial Intelligence (Ai) and report to your mobile device without fail. Of course we are a NSI Gold Approved Company and have been for some 30 years. If you are looking for a cheap system or reliability, you get what you pay for? If you are looking for quality, security, reliability and Insurance company approval, give us a call to arrange a free survey and solid advice.
Artificial Intelligence - Ai Technology
Clever CCTV Systems with Artificial Intelligence or Ai technology has advanced exponentially in the digital world. To be able to offer it in digital Security Systems Surveillance Cameras is a break through for Armour Security’s CCTV systems.
Ai Technology teaches computers to create intelligence through algorithms, presenting many advantages. CCTV Cameras can be set to distinguish the difference between human form, family pets, cars and vehicles and even wind blown bushes that might otherwise set off the alarm system.
no more false alarms
No more unnecessary anxieties or wasting Police time, this CCTV system can be set to report only genuine irregularities.
Armour Security’s Ai Cameras come with pre-set audible warnings that are loud enough to startle the most professional intruder and two way communication system that will pick up noises and conversation. The warnings set are off by strategically set ‘virtual’ trip wires that spur the machine into action.
In nano-seconds, the offending irregularity is identified and the system decides whether to send an alert via the user APP. The user may then view live footage and inform the police if necessary
Long gone are the days of lots of turning cogs and wheels illustrated so well in the Bletchley Park computer designed by Alan Turin when they successfully broke the Enigma Code in 1940. Computers now are as small as microchips that gain and access information and report facial recognition and work as the perfect deterrent.
Equally suitable for Residential and Business properties, these cameras and Ai is the future, and its. now! For more information call our friendly office team. They will be happy to discuss this system with you and arrange for a free site survey for one our professional surveyors to explain and advise in even more detail.
The impact the Corona Virus, or Covid-19 as it is now known, affected everybody one way or another. It was a global pandemic with catastrophic effect, causing many people to get sick and die, particularly those with underlying health issues. Nobody was immune. Even our front line health workers and surely the devastating effect it had on them made it even more scary.
However, we do know that many people contracted the disease and thankfully survived and are now helping scientists by using their anti-bodies to develop vaccines and maybe a cure for this and similar virus’ and diseases.
We’d like to think that nothing like this is ever going to happen again, but we thought this about previous pandemics so there’s no guarantees. The only thing to come out of this, if anything, is that is that we must learn from it. Early warning systems and isolation is paramount for any future occasion and hopefully within the next few months a vaccine will be discovered that will help combat it or cure it completely.
Meanwhile many people have found themselves isolated in their own homes on furlough or working from home, even without employment. It was and still is a difficult very time for many.
Signs are that we have come through the worst of the Covid-19 contamination rate and we are trying to get back to a new normal because things will not be the same as they were for some time to come. Ironically, more people being at home, working, shielding themselves or having to look after their kids meant that there was always someone indoors. Consequently the crime rate and burglaries reduced considerably. What’s more, anyone out and about became far more conspicuous and easier to spot making it easy to enquire about their purpose and intentions; the Police did an excellent job on lockdown.
So what has Covid-19 got to do with a security system or the lack of any? Well, the hardship and lack of opportunity is going to increase everyones effort to make up for lost time. Businesses are going to be working double hard to off load stocks and make up for lost trade but indicators are that more people are going to have to rely on social security and will find it hard to make mends meet.
History tells us that hard times and possibly a recession has a direct impact on crime and burglaries, organised or opportunistic. More care has to be taken with your valuables and personal effects, whether they are being worn or stored at home.
Insurance companies will no doubt see an increase in their business and they will be asking some sensitive questions about any security system you have in place and whether it is NSI/NACOSS Gold and fitted by a professionally recognised (by them) company. Some will take some convincing that a home made kit is as efficient and this will probably reflect on the cost you will be asked to pay in the way of a premium, or the scrutiny and difficulty getting recompensed in the event of a claim.
We know this is a busy time for intruder alarm installers particularly those that have been in business for 30 plus years and have a reputation of being excellent to deal with and particularly neat and tidy when fitting intruder alarms and CCTV systems.
As our mantra is, “Your Security is our Priority” it will not be new to us. We have enough qualified and security checked engineers, and friendly staff to treat each of our customers as individuals. They will be happy to book a free survey, without obligation for anyone who is thinking of having a security system installed or improving their security arrangements.
We work mainly in the local area of Winchmore Hill and about a 15 mile radius so we know the area and the things to look for. Whether you are considering a CCTV system that can be recorded or send directly to your mobile device or an intruder alarm system that is monitored 24/7 we can advise you and satisfy your requirements with trade leading technology.

- How much does a CCTV System or Intruder Alarm cost?
The cost of a CCTV system will depend on a variety of factors. How many cameras? What type of cameras ie; fixed or moveable? What resolution 4mp, 8mp 12mp etc? How much recording time is required? Depending on the hard drive fitted and what type of cameras you decide to have fitted will all have an effect on how much recording time is available. Do you require the cameras to notify you via an APP if they detect motion? All these variables can be discussed with our expert surveyors who will advise you on the options available.
The cost of an intruder alarm system will depend on a variety of factors. How much protection is going to be fitted? How do you want to control the system ie; how many keypads, proximity fobs, wireless fobs are required? Do you require external protection? Do you want to have the system connected to an APP, which will allow you to receive notifications of system events ie; Alarm activated, alarm turned on, alarm turned off etc. It can also be used to monitor smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, water leak detection, panic buttons, medical alarms etc. Is the system required to be connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) for police action. All these variables can be discussed with our expert surveyors who can provide a free, no obligation survey and quotation.
2. How long will it take to install?
CCTV – This would depend on how many cameras are being installed over what area. To give an idea, a fairly standard 4 camera system installed in a domestic or small commercial property would be installed in a day.
Intruder alarm – This would depend on the type of system being installed, but most wireless systems would be installed in a day with a minimum of fuss and NO MESS.
3. Why should i choose armour security?
Armour Security is an NSI NACOSS Gold approved company and, as such, is accepted by any insurance company as TradeCraft installers and maintainers of Intruder Alarms, CCTV and Access Control Systems. We are also registered with the Met and Local Police Forces to request Police response to intruder alarm systems when connected via an ARC.
In normal events, incidents reported to the Police by an ARC are not considered complete with the issue of an incident number for the benefit of insurance companies.
Above all, we are a friendly independent company who pride ourselves on our level of customer service and the business relationships we develop with them. All our engineers are fully qualified, insured and have a friendly easy going, but professional manner that gets excellent acclaim. #YourSecurityOurPriority
4. How long has Armour-Security been going
Armour Security were founded in 1983 and have been run by the same management team since then. We have been in the Enfield area for over nearly 40 years and enjoy employing local people and training local engineers to our high standard, to become reliable and trustworthy members of our team.
5. What significance is NSI/NACOSS Gold
This is an excellent question. If you select an NSI NACOSS Gold company to install your system, you are assured of getting a TradeCraft installation that is completed to the highest standard and issued with a certificate to verify this.
This is perfectly suitable to satisfy any insurance company, if they require you to have an intruder alarm fitted. Many Alarm Companies, particularly those without this accreditation will not explain this, but in the event of having a claim, try justifying the lack of a NSI installation certificate when the insurance company starts investigating.
With Gold companies, you are further assured that the company management system is certified to ISO standards. NSI demands a high standard and provides a complaints service, where customers can have an independent third party to interact with if they feel that the company or system has not performed to expectations.
For more information about NSI/Nacoss Gold Company follow this link
6. How often should I update my system
This depends a lot in technology but most systems don’t have any built in obsolescence so, if it is all in working order you won’t need to update at all.
Obviously, things improve and new system/ideas come out of beta testing all the time. If you deal with a responsible company such as Armour Security, we keep you appraised and discuss any new products that we might think are an improved innovation and help you decide whether they are worth making changes or not. The decision remains yours and will not impact on your NSI certificate unless we tell you differently. #YourSecurityOurPriority
7. Can I add to my system once its installed
Intruder alarms – Most intruder alarm systems are wireless nowadays, so are very easy to add to once installed. For example, you might initially decide to have downstairs windows contacted and then upstairs at a later date. This wouldn’t present a problem at all.
CCTV – Most CCTV systems would be limited by the amount of cameras that can be connected to the DVR/NVR that has been specified. Most DVRs/NVRs start as a 4 camera unit then go to 8, 16 and 32. If you feel that you might need to add additional cameras in the future, it would be cost effective to install a higher capacity DVR/NVR at the time of installation
8. How much disruption is there on installation
We are going to say, “You won’t know we’re there and you wouldn’t know we’d been.”
At Armour, we pride ourselves on the standard of our workmanship and how neatly we finish off our installations. Most intruder alarm systems are wireless now, so there is very little disruption in terms of installation, and all our engineers vacuum, tidy up and take away all the rubbish and detritus from site.
Our slogan is ‘London’s Neatest Alarm Installers’
9. What advantage is it to have a monitoring company
An Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) is usually used if the customer requires police response. Any type of property can get police response to their intruder alarm system provided the system conforms to the required standard and has been installed by an approved installer. Monitored systems mean that you will always get a response to the system as the ARC will inform both police and nominated keyholders in the event of a system activation

Armour Security has been installing CCTV security systems more or less since they were invented and, through advancements in technology became affordable.
Closed сіrсuіt tеlеvіѕіоn, also known as CCTV, is the best known and mоѕt соnvеnіеnt and еffесtіvе wау without having someone physically patrolling the property. CCTV gives you continual mоnіtоring of рrореrty and work areas. The CCTV Cаmеrа plays a vеrу іmроrtаnt function іn protecting the home and businesses, prevent break-ins, thеft, соntrоlling inventory and maximising рrоduсtіvіtу.
To Your Mobile Device 24/7
CCTV moves with the times. The latest technology is the IP or Internet Protocol Camera.
An IP camera іѕ a tуре of digital vіdео саmеrа commonly еmрlоуеd fоr ѕurvеіllаnсе. Unlike Anаlоg CCTV. IP an саmеrа doesn’t need to be attached to a recording device. New technology allows it to ѕеnd and rесеіvе dаtа via a соmрutеr nеtwоrk and thе Intеrnеt. Much the same as a server does to a website.
The IP саmеrа trаnѕmіtѕ a dіgіtаl signal. CCTV Cаmеrа саn be either IP or Anаlоg саmеrаs. Thе dіffеrеnсе in thе twо іѕ thаt, IP Cаmеrа іѕ соnfіgurеd bу аѕѕіgnіng IP аddrеѕѕ оn the NVR оr on the camera itself and it’s роwеrеd or connected the internet by a POE Swіtсh (Power Over Ethеrnеt). DVR ѕtаndѕ fоr Digital Vіdео Rесоrdеr, whereas NVR stands fоr Network Vіdео Rесоrdеr. Most NVRѕ аrе uѕеd with IP саmеrаѕ whеrеаѕ DVRѕ аrе uѕеd wіth аnаlоg саmеrаѕ. It’ѕ іmроrtаnt tо nоtе thаt а DVR bаѕеd ѕуѕtеm is a wіrеd ѕесurіtу system, whеrеаѕ NVR ѕуѕtеmѕ саn bе a wіrеd оr wіrеlеѕѕ system.
A little more for the technical buffs, normal digital CCTV uѕеѕ coax аnd a power cable whіlе аn IP саmеrа uѕеѕ ѕtаndаrd nеtwоrk (Cаt 5е оr Cаt 6) cabling. Bу uѕіng a PoE ѕwіtсh оr injector, аn IP саmеrа саn be роwеrеd аnd transmit vіdео оvеr a ѕіnglе саblе, thеrеbу rеduсіng the саblіng соѕt соmраrеd to CCTV.
IP cameras capture іmаgеѕ іn muсh the ѕаmе way аѕ a dіgіtаl camera and compress thе fіlеѕ to trаnѕmіt оvеr thе nеtwоrk. IP саmеrаѕ mау bе used wіth a wіrеd network соnnесtеd via ethernet cable to a broadband modem or rоutеr, оr wirelessly vіа a WiFi rоutеr.
Evеn if the IP CCTV саmеrаѕ is wіthоut Intеrnеt ассеѕѕ, it саn ѕtіll provide video surveillance іn off-grid рlасеѕ like a rеmоtе fаrm, саbіn, rurаl hоmе, and any оthеr areas without Intеrnеt оr WіFі соnnесtіоn. Now you саn gеt lосаl recording еvеn if the security cameras have no Internet access.
There arе 8 different types of CCTV Cаmеrаѕ in use depending on the purpose. Our Representative will gladly talk through the differences and the models we work with.

Burglars Don't Like cctv
In a controlled survey, former burglars said that bаrkіng dogs and CCTV cameras on show had the best impact deterrent. Burglars are not going to risk brеаkіng іntо homes or businesses covered by CCTV саmеrаѕ. Being the most еffесtіvе dеtеrrеntѕ for burglаrіеѕ, cctv has extended to vehicles and has had an impact on саr thеft as well as reporting traffic incidents, much welcomed by all leading insurance companies.
